Charles is an acknowledged expert in NC politics, particularly suburban politics, and has been quoted in Politico, the Washington Post, TIME, the Washington Examiner, the News & Observer, the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina Journal, the North State Journal, and many more. He’s been featured on political news stories from FOX to MSNBC, as well as most NC stations. His Southern Politics professor at UNC, Merle Black, PhD, said: “Charles has a talent for political analysis” (Black authored Politics & Society in the South, The Vital South, and The Rise of Southern Republicans).

Hellwig Communications is based in Raleigh, NC where Charles lives with his wife of 23 years, Kelley, and their twin 11 year old sons, Jack & Bobby. He has a BA in Political Science from UNC Chapel Hill, a Digital Marketing Certificate from UNC Chapel Hill, and is a Masters in Communications from UNC Wilmington. He enjoys playing with his kids, golf, chess, and cheering for his Tar Heels.
